The Les Lilas Maternity Hospital closed its doors in October 2025, bringing to an end a remarkable history, a distinctive approach to care, and decades of advocacy. This rehabilitation project seeks to carry that legacy forward. Rather than breaking with the site’s past, it adapts its values to contemporary social and environmental challenges.
The project is structured around three forms of continuity: historical continuity, through a space dedicated to preserving the memory of the site; feminist continuity, through social housing for single mothers facing financial and social vulnerability; and medical continuity, through a healthcare centre dedicated to maternal and reproductive health.
Housing forms the core of the programme, conceived as a refuge for mothers and their children.
