CALCIFIELD

Since childhood, regularly passing the Greenfield paper mill in Château-Thierry, near my family home, has confronted me with a striking paradox. Although the plant’s primary purpose is to recycle and recover paper waste, the process itself generates a significant amount of residual material. During the de-inking process, around 25% of the paper is discarded as sludge. Mainly used for agricultural land spreading, this highly regulated de-inking sludge may also be sent to landfill or incinerated. Faced with a material that remains largely unused and little known to the public, this project explores ways of transforming and shaping it into a new material.
