The RESTATIO project transforms the former courthouse of Mortagne-au-Perche into a hotel residence. It marks the transition from an imposed stop, associated with justice, to a chosen stay. Built in 1840 and originally designed as an enclosed building to preserve the confidentiality of judicial proceedings, it becomes a welcoming place open to its surroundings.
My approach is based on a typological shift: transforming the rigour of the judicial institution into hospitality by rethinking essential rituals such as sleeping, eating, and washing. In the bedrooms, all domestic functions are integrated into concealed cupboards that blend into the walls. This system of an inhabited wall clears the room and refocuses the space entirely around the bed, placed alone at its centre.
