This dissertation is based on a series of research into and analyses of the traditional and contemporary architecture of the Réunion island, with a particular focus on the Creole pastiche phenomenon. My work has been supported by extensive documentation, enriched by staying there, which allowed me to directly observe the problems studied and understand their tangible challenges.
The study traces the evolution of architecture on Réunion and questions how it is changing today, in particular through contemporary constructions appearing which imitate the formal codes of the “creole house” without maintaining their vernacular logic.
