The Witch

Long demonised, persecuted and dismissed as a myth, the figure of the witch runs through Western history as a reflection of a fear linked to the female body, its knowledge and its autonomy.
This dissertation traces her evolution, from the witch hunts to her contemporary reappropriation by artistic, feminist and ecofeminist movements. The witch is viewed here as a body that has been persecuted, then reclaimed, and finally re-enchanted.
Having become a symbol of resistance, care and the reinvention of our connections with the living world, she now embodies a critical imagination that questions the body, power and our relationship with the world.
