This dissertation analyses the polka dot pattern in history and fashion.
We will ask the following question: to what extent has the Roma aesthetic contributed to writing the language of colour and graphics that polka dots speaks.
In following the Roma people's journey, we will see how polka dots have spread and been adopted around the world and through the ages. We will show that this motif was brought to life by the Roma people in Bohemia, and then spread by two sister branches that took two different routes. One has become a more traditional symbol of flamenco in Spain, and the other a universal motif: the Polka Dot in the United States that is more glamorous and present in the world of luxury.
