Why are leisure spaces so attractive? The feeling we have of our perception being shaped is developed by scenographers who design the staging for a theatre play or an exhibition. The spectator does not really have control over their choices anymore, they let themselves go with the flow.
Hospitality also plays on this sensory appeal: the architect often carefully constructs the illusion of being free to walk around the spaces in a hotel, in response to their client's intentions.
This dissertation looks at how the spectator is prepared to receive information or directed towards a space without being fully aware of it, and how the sustainable architecture of a hotel often brings theatrical codes into play.
