Perched at an altitude of 2,132 metres, the Terre Rouge Refuge overlooks the Alpine landscapes of Valmeinier, in the heart of the Maurienne Valley. Reached after a walk of around two hours from the resort, it marks a transition between the bustle of tourism and the calm of the high mountains. The project transforms the refuge into a true place of experience, where architecture, landscape, and uses come together. Open to all hikers, the restaurant showcases contemporary Alpine cuisine centred around sharing and wood-fire cooking, organised around a central fireplace. Upstairs, the dormitories are reimagined as “refuges within the refuge”, offering greater privacy and comfort while preserving the collective spirit that defines life in a mountain refuge.
