The West African textile industry is currently undergoing change. In the face of globalisation, many traditional skills are gradually disappearing from the local population’s habits in terms of clothing. One of the solutions envisaged is to use these fabrics in the upholstery sector. But how can these fabrics, which convey symbols and stories, find a way to have a lasting place in our homes? This research aims to show that West African fabrics, far from being stuck in the past, can become objects bearing renewed symbolism. The aim is to imagine contemporary design that reinvents cultural heritage and places it at the heart of our living spaces.
