Among Accor’s entire premium segment, Sofitel’s core identity is the French “art de vivre” or art of living.
The underlying issue of the subject is the adaptation of Sofitel’s French culture to an outdoor environment. As a hotel chain present in all four corners of the globe, Sofitel must avoid the generic effect of hotels, thus allowing a part of French identity to be absorbed by local culture. Located in a European neighbourhood in Bangkok, the hotel bridges the gap between mainly local Asian tourism and its attraction to France.
In this context, one imagines the disused building undergoing a complete overhaul. In order to best express the French style in a remote region, the design pays homage to local techniques and traditional Thai craftsmanship.
