We are witnessing an age when humans have evolved into builders by creating more and more space, where confinement and partitions exists to protect us from ourselves, others and our environment. The bunker, representative of the quest for safety, was the starting point for our consideration of surrounding threats. Inspired by this observation, we identified the “chamber” as our most intimate and protective refuge. With this in mind, we are going to propose an “urban chamber”, which refers to a space that combines the characteristics of a city with those of a private bedroom. This concept seeks to reconcile individual refuge and urban dynamism, while promoting cohesion and community interaction without sacrificing personal privacy.
