In this dissertation, I look at virtual spaces and how can we understand them, given the inherent differences between virtual spaces and physical spaces we continue to inhabit. Three themes are discussed: our relationship with ourselves, our relationship with others and our relationship with space.
Since the virtual spaces are too vast, too multiple, too different, I chose to study one in particular, the World of Warcraft game.
This dissertation is divided into two parts. The first is a travel diary that recounts my digital adventure in the World of Warcraft and aims to familiarise those with no knowledge of the game with its interface, its aesthetics, its space, etc. As such, I think that reading the second part, a case study of the World of Warcraft game.
