Today, everything is available online. Yet the major Parisian libraries are still filled with students and workers. What they come here for is no longer a book—it’s the atmosphere. Wood, soft light, silence. But at these large shared tables, a tension arises. Everyone instinctively marks off their own space with their belongings—a bag, a coat, a stack of books—to shield themselves from the gaze of their neighbors. This project stems from that observation. It reinterprets the traditional writing desk as an everyday object, made available by the library. Placed on the table, it can be unfolded. When closed, it’s discreet. When open, it envelops the user: it blocks out prying eyes, dampens sounds, and clearly defines their personal space.
