This dissertation analyses the development of housing architecture in Kyiv during the Soviet period, in the context of the normative system, urban planning choices and the role played by certain architects. The work examines the interaction between centralised ideological orientations and the city’s local conditions, the natural landscape and designers’ professional choices. Particular attention is paid to the work of Yossyp Karakis, Anatoly Dobrovolsky and Volodymyr Zabolotnyi, the main architects in Kyiv, considered as examples of preserving an individual approach amidst high standardisation.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/article>\n\n
