In the twentieth century, seeking to break free from academic conventions, several painters painted paintings where the narrative was no longer recognisable, giving rise to abstract art. Reflecting a quest for freedom, this art is based on gesture and intuition. In this context, this dissertation explores how this abstract pictorial gesture can become a spatial design tool and what perceptible experiences it can offer.

This research is based on the cross-analysis of three artists and three architects whose approaches make abstraction a tool for staging.

Organised into two complementary sections, \u201cimmersive abstract spaces\u201d and \u201cfunctional abstract spaces\u201d, this study aims to show how abstraction structures and transforms space.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/article>\n\n
