Through the study of the Parisian public bench, this dissertation explores how urban furniture is an indicator of social dynamics, and contributes to appropriating the public space. An everyday object often seen to be unimportant, the piece of furniture designed by Gabriel Davioud is a symbol of things that are free and equality. Based on a crossover approach between urban sociology and observations in the field, this research examines the uses and guidelines of the public bench in the city. From a common good designed to be accessible to all, it tends to become a social control tool and a marketing medium.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/article>\n\n
