Annie, my 93-year-old great aunt, is currently the last living memory of my father’s family to have experienced the Second World War as a Jewish person, forced to flee between 1941 and 1944.

She was eight during the German Occupation in Paris, and grew up in post-war family silence, having been deprived of sharing her experience with family members and finding answers to the questions she still wants to ask.

This dissertation explores the challenges of passing on family history as an intangible heritage and a vector of collective memory. Narrating her account means revealing the impact of migratory movement on her memories as well as the fragmentation of the spaces she has experienced.
