The abandoned theatre is a historic monument in the heart of Mirecourt, a town whose identity has been rooted in music since the Renaissance.

A 17th-century convent, later transformed into an Italian-style theatre within the chapel, then a school and club hall before being abandoned in 1950, the building is a palimpsest, bearing within its very fabric the successive layers of its history. It is not a forgotten building on the outskirts of the town. It is an absence at its very centre, and with it, something of the town\u2019s collective life has receded.

The project seeks neither to restore the building to a former state nor to break with its past.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/article>\n\n

Aujourd’hui, l’aile est du b\u00e2timent abrite la salle de spectacle, l’aile ouest est compl\u00e8tement vide. Une nouvelle programmation est pens\u00e9e, afin d’inscrire le lieu dans un usage prospectif, quotidien et ind\u00e9pendant de la programmation de la salle de spectacle.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/article>\n

La place est une sc\u00e8ne, le palimpseste un d\u00e9cor<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/article>\n\n

Les empreintes renaissantes du couvent disparu ressurgissent sur la place et des gradins, forme antique du th\u00e9\u00e2tre, y prennent place. Plus qu\u2019un simple acc\u00e8s au foyer du th\u00e9\u00e2tre, cette structure se transforme et devient la sc\u00e8ne libre de la ville. Les empreintes conserv\u00e9es et les ouvertures illumin\u00e9es, la fa\u00e7ade en devient le d\u00e9cor.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/article>\n

Le foyer<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/article>\n\n

Le foyer est le premier acte v\u00e9cu au sein du th\u00e9\u00e2tre r\u00e9habilit\u00e9. Au coeur de l’espace, un espace de sc\u00e9nographie polyvalente offre plusieurs usages au foyer afin de le rendre ind\u00e9pendant de la programmation de la salle de spectacle.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/article>\n

Jour de spectacle, la tente centrale est libre et le public s\u2019empare de l\u2019espace.\nDix-huit planches se d\u00e9ploient au sein de la tente et forment une sc\u00e9nographie d\u2019exposition.\nLes planches se rabattent et s\u2019empilent : une estrade se d\u00e9voile et accueille un rendez-vous culturel.\n<\/figcaption>\n <\/article>\n\n\n

Les archives se positionnent \u00e0 l’intersection des quatre institutions culturelles de la ville. Elles regroupent une documentation \u00e9crite, audiovisuelle et mat\u00e9rielle autour des m\u00e9tiers d’arts locaux ainsi que des arts de la sc\u00e8ne.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/article>\n

Les \u00e9l\u00e9ments existants conservables sont restaur\u00e9s puis compl\u00e9t\u00e9s selon les plans d’origine de la sc\u00e8ne. Les anciens d\u00e9cors sont peints, orn\u00e9s, dor\u00e9s. Les nouveaux sont faits de bois brut, conservent les m\u00eames d\u00e9tails. <\/p><\/div><\/div><\/article>\n
