The project explores three thresholds: the surface, with the reception building and shop; a second level 12 metres below ground, within an abandoned subterranean space; and finally, the depths of the chasm and its network of galleries, 110 metres underground.
Through a unified approach to both above-ground and underground infrastructure, the project redesigns circulation and rethinks the uses of the site. The challenge is to introduce careful and respectful interventions within a complex natural landscape, while preserving and revealing the narratives, both human and geological, that converge in this unique place.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/article>\n\n

Le Gouffre de Padirac est une singularit\u00e9 g\u00e9ologique fa\u00e7onn\u00e9e par plusieurs millions d’ann\u00e9es d’\u00e9rosion : un puits naturel de cent m\u00e8tres de profondeur ouvrant sur un vaste r\u00e9seau souterrain. Accueillant pr\u00e8s de 500 000 visiteurs par an, le site r\u00e9v\u00e8le aujourd’hui les limites d’infrastructures vieillissantes qui peinent \u00e0 r\u00e9pondre aux usages contemporains tout en pr\u00e9servant la singularit\u00e9 du lieu.<\/em>\n<\/figcaption>\n <\/article>\n\n\n

Le projet s’articule autour d’un escalier \u00e0 double r\u00e9volution de cinquante-quatre m\u00e8tres de hauteur. Il r\u00e9organise les circulations tout en faisant de la descente une exp\u00e9rience sensible, au c\u0153ur du projet architectural.<\/em>\n<\/figcaption>\n <\/article>\n\n\n
