A guest arrives in the evening. He dines in the dining room, ascends to the salons, then reaches a final, secluded salon on the upper floor; beyond it, beneath a lower ceiling, lies a succession of small private rooms. A series of thresholds has gradually separated him from the world he has just left behind. The rehabilitation of the Ch\u00e2teau de Cahaigne, a seventeenth-century Norman residence, translates the four stages of the Grand Si\u00e8cle: Grand Couvert, Appartement, Retrait, and Coucher, into a slow-paced hospitality experience, set apart from the outside world within an estate turned in on itself. Guests come here to step away from the pace of the present, for the duration of a stay.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/article>\n\n

Le domaine<\/em> passe d’un jardin structur\u00e9 et entretenu \u00e0 un lieu laiss\u00e9 \u00e0 l’abandon, o\u00f9 l’incendie et la v\u00e9g\u00e9tation ont peu \u00e0 peu effac\u00e9 les traces d’usage.\n<\/figcaption>\n <\/article>\n\n\n

Les circulations d’acc\u00e8s sont redessin\u00e9es pour distinguer le service et le public, sans que les parcours se croisent. Une boucle de service \u2014 livraisons, d\u00e9p\u00f4t, parking \u2014 dessert l’arri\u00e8re du b\u00e2ti et des pavillons, quand les h\u00f4tes remontent vers les jardins. Le terrain est redessin\u00e9 sur la base des archives et adapt\u00e9 \u00e0 l’usage du projet.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/article>\n

Au premier \u00e9tage, Le petit couvert<\/em> se sert \u00e0 table par deux, comme le d\u00e9jeuner de cour pris durant le Grand Si\u00e8cle en cercle priv\u00e9. Miroirs et textile ocre en rappellent l’intimit\u00e9. La carte vient du seul jardin nourricier du domaine.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/article>\n

L’apr\u00e8s-midi, trois salons<\/em> s’enfilent au premier \u00e9tage: lecture, billard, curiosit\u00e9s, o\u00f9 l’on sert les mignardises du soir. Le salon de lecture, h\u00e9ritier des cabinets du Grand Si\u00e8cle, ouvre ses alc\u00f4ves bleues autour de biblioth\u00e8que centrale.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/article>\n

Le soir, au rez-de-chauss\u00e9e, Le grand couvert<\/em> se sert \u00e0 la fran\u00e7aise, \u00e0 la seule bougie, comme au Grand Si\u00e8cle. Pierre de Vigny et voiles noirs fa\u00e7onnent le clair-obscur. La carte r\u00e9interpr\u00e8te le terroir normand. Un d\u00eener d’apparat.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/article>\n

Au dernier niveau loge le chef en r\u00e9sidence, le temps de sa saison. De la cuisine-laboratoire au salon sous charpente d’\u00e9poque, jusqu’aux chambres sous voile reprenant le baldaquin du XVII\u1d49, \u00e9clair\u00e9es au cand\u00e9labre. Espace priv\u00e9.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/article>\n

Deux typologies de sol<\/em> viennent substituer les sols manquants, dessin\u00e9es en contraste pour distinguer l’existant du projet.

Le parquet<\/em>, inspir\u00e9 des essences locales, revient aux espaces intimes ;

La pierre<\/em>, reprise de celles d\u00e9j\u00e0 pr\u00e9sentes dans le b\u00e2ti, aux espaces d’apparat et de service \u2014 dans l’h\u00e9ritage des usages du Grand Si\u00e8cle<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/article>\n

Trois panneaux muraux<\/em> r\u00e9versibles inspir\u00e9s des rev\u00eatements du XVII\u1d49 si\u00e8cle<\/em> restructurent l’espace :

un panneau textile<\/em> \u00e9voquant les tentures<\/em> d\u00e9coratives et isolantes un panneau miroir<\/em> avec une lame de noyer portant un porte-bougie<\/em> recr\u00e9ant le clair-obscur<\/em> nocturne et un panneau en pierre<\/em> inspir\u00e9 des moellons<\/em> apparents du ch\u00e2teau<\/em>.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/article>\n
