My project explores candlelight as a tangible trace of time in the theater. Inspired by the theater\u2019s intangible heritage, it draws on the gestures, rituals, and forgotten trades associated with stage lighting, particularly that of the candle tenders. Before the advent of electricity, the candle set the rhythm of the performance: it marked the beginning of immersion, accompanied the anticipation, and then gradually faded away as the show progressed.
I wanted to turn its melting into a testament to this heritage. The flowing wax becomes the physical memory of a lived moment, a materialization of the passage of time. The installation is situated in the peristyle of the Com\u00e9die-Fran\u00e7aise\u2014a space of passage and ceremony\u2014to extend the theatrical experience beyond the stage.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/article>\n\n

LA BOUGIE COMME T\u00c9MOIN DU TEMPS AU TH\u00c9\u00c2TRE <\/p><\/div><\/div><\/article>\n\n

Avant l\u2019\u00e9lectricit\u00e9, la bougie rythmait la repr\u00e9sentation, elle marquait le d\u00e9but de l\u2019immersion total dans l’illusion, accompagnait l\u2019attente puis disparaissait progressivement avec le temps du spectacle. Elle na\u00eet elle br\u00fble et elle disparait. Mon objet devra suivre ces m\u00eames codes na\u00eetre \u00e0 l’entr\u00e9e du spectateur, et mourir \u00e0 sa sortie.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/article>\n

M\u00c9TIER – OBJET – AFFICHE DISPARUS<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/article>\n\n

Autrefois, c’\u00e9tait aussi le moucheur de chandelles ce m\u00e9tier disparu qui changeait les bougies entre les actes. La mouchette c’est une paire de ciseaux dot\u00e9e d’un petit chapeau qui permet de couper la m\u00e8che sans faire tomber la braise. Dans l’a\ufb03che de 1803 on y voit le roi George III \u00e9tou\ufb00er la flamme qui figure Napol\u00e9on. <\/p><\/div><\/div><\/article>\n
