At 13 Rue Daguerre, the project revitalizes the Arte printing shop through a fully reversible design that preserves the historic building envelope and its traces. The intervention employs the “box-within-a-box” concept, guided by the grid of existing columns. On the ground floor, industrial activity coexists with a café, a bookstore, and a museum beneath a self-supporting mezzanine with no anchors. On the first floor, the window grid determines the layout of the work areas. Sliding partitions on tracks evoke the movement of paper and fit snugly against custom-built workbenches. This kinetic design combines a warm wooden panel pattern with perforated metal mashrabiya screens reminiscent of “Ben Day dots.”
