Based on research into glass and the way this material embodies narrative, STELE is a mirror that shines a light on a little-known craft: that of the artisans who handcraft telescope mirrors. A thick cylindrical block of glass, one surface of which has been shaped into a concave curve after dozens of hours of rotational movement, is coated with a thin layer of metal just a few nanometers thick. The resulting reflection is of unparalleled purity and clarity, and the parabolic surface magnifies the reflected image. Now showcased within a monolith that reveals rather than conceals it, the mirror is angled downward to reflect the sky in a play of perspective.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/article>\n\n
