The Vassylkiv majolica rooster, created by Nadia and Valeriy Protoryevy in the late 1950s, became a symbol of resilience in April 2022 after surviving the bombings of Borodianka unscathed. My project reinterprets this heritage object to bring it to life in everyday life, without betraying its symbolic significance.
The original, heavy and disproportionate, was often kept as a display piece. I sought a softer, more graphic silhouette, inspired by Fran\u00e7ois-Xavier Lalanne, while respecting the constraints of majolica: glazing, engobe, and hand-painted ornamentation. Each piece remains unique.
I added a rocking base: the rooster sways with the level of the liquid, mimicking the act of pecking\u2014a symbol of a peaceful future for Ukraine. When full, it leans forward; when empty, it rights itself.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/article>\n\n

Le coq en majolique de Vassylkiv a \u00e9t\u00e9 con\u00e7u \u00e0 la fin des ann\u00e9es 1950 par Nadiia et Valerii Protoriyevy. Le pichet \u00e9tait model\u00e9 avec un corps creux, un bec verseur et une queue en format anse. Pourtant, \u00e0 cause d’un dessin peu commode pour un usage quotidien, son r\u00f4le est devenu d\u00e9coratif.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/article>\n

Le patrimoine comme objet du quotidien<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/article>\n\n

Mon projet reprend le coq de Vassylkiv et le redessine pour un usage quotidien contemporain. Je n’ai pas voulu un hommage. Je n’ai pas voulu un m\u00e9morial. Ce que je voulais, en revanche, c’\u00e9tait honorer le coq comme la manufacture de Vassylkiv l’avait honor\u00e9: en le redessinant. <\/p><\/div><\/div><\/article>\n

En concevant cette pi\u00e8ce comme une figure androgyne, oscillant entre la puissance h\u00e9raldique du coq public et la rondeur intime de la poule domestique, ma forme r\u00e9unit la r\u00e9silience nationale et la m\u00e9moire du foyer qui font la force unique du symbole de Borodianka.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/article>\n
