Zbylitowska Góra in Poland was the theatre of execution of thousands of Jews in 1942. My project is located in the heart of the forest where this massacre took place. It will primarily comprise an interpretation centre aimed at contextualising the events and identifying the victims. It will be extended by a route that will revolve around a free walk through the sites of the massacre, respecting the landscape, the locations, and the weight of memory imposed by the context and anachronisms of the site.
Creating a place of remembrance is a delicate balance of symbolism, narratives, solemnity, and carefully placed signage. The architecture and design of the site will serve as the means of transmission. Every architectural gesture will aim to convey meaning and seriousness, distancing itself
