The abbey of Jumièges, in ruins since the 18th century, remains largely unaltered despite the impressive nature of its remains. The project proposes to reactivate it through an immersive journey and the creation of a museum, restaurant and foyer for artists, offering a sequence ranging from contemplation to encounters.
It is accompanied by an intervention protocol outlining various methods for establishing architecture on a ruin, depending on its condition of deterioration. This method challenges our approach to building within existing structures, balancing structural, symbolic, and spatial considerations.
This project raises broader questions about our responsibility towards built heritage: how can we reinvest in the remnants of our history without betraying or sanctifying them?
