Many market halls today struggle to integrate fully into urban everyday life, often reduced to partial use, in both time and space. Yet their architectural, social and economic potential remains considerable.
I have elected to renovate one of these pavilions in Les Sables d'Olonne, Vendée. The project proposes a modular and reversible space, deployed without altering the listed monument. It will host a local market, artisans, as well as cultural and festive events, along with permanent or temporary dining areas. The intervention draws on a variety of materials that resonate with the coastal identity of the site: fishing ropes, driftwood and repurposed maritime elements.
Open daily, the location adapts to the changing rhythms of the seasons.
