Minerals, with their symbolic and figurative power, are a popular decorative medium. Current applications involving marble, quartzite, onyx, or semi-precious minerals, offer sophisticated aesthetics but also raise ecological concerns. Straddling the line between figuration and abstraction, this project aims to explore the imaginative and sensory potential of these materials sourced from around the globe, through artistic and pictorial research. By hybridising their shapes and colours, it takes on the form of decorative cladding made from local resources.
With care and awareness, each invented "stone motif" embodies a memory of a hand crafted gesture, a landscape, and a mineral narrative, giving rise to vibrant pictorial surfaces that engage and create a profound connection.
