As a future designer, exploring the craftsmanship of the objects around us is essential to my practice. Graphical representation offers a range of tools to reveal the knowledge inherent in every observable object. How do we establish a graphic system to convey this expertise? The first part of my discussion is theoretical and explores how our thinking is linked to images, why they speak to us and form part of our learning system. The implementation of an effective graphical representation system and the need for individual practice are then discussed. In my opinion, practical implementation is essential, and a proposal for a graphic representation of the expertise of a lens grinder drawn from my observation of glasses supports my research.
